Variegated Shell Ginger
This plant is a cultivar of Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet) which has yellow variegation on its leaf.
It expands 15 to 30 cm in length of the raceme, and bears 2 or 3 buds covered with a bract at the tip of the short stem from the floral axis.  The young floral axis is coral color and contrasts well with the variegated leaves.  During blooming, the skin wraps the raceme, which is colored pink around its tip, opens first to show bracts which have pink tips.  The buds sequentially bloom.  The flower has a well-developed lip which is yellow with additional red color that contrasts favorably with the white base.
