Dalechampia dioscoreifolia
Two large purple bracts create a unique appearance.  The small flowers at its center have no petals and are small.
Dalechampia roezliana resembles this plant.  The color of its bract is more red.  It also belongs to the genus Dalechampia but is an evergreen shrub and has an upright habit.  Its Japanese names are Fuchogashiwa and Keshoboku.
Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) also resembles this plant, but has improved varieties which have more ornamental value.  It is an evergreen high tree belonging to the genus Euphorbia.
